Coherent introduces a new generation of ultraviolet lasers - Pioneers

Coherent has announced the launch of a new generation of ultra-low-cost matrix nanosecond pulsed ultraviolet lasers, which can be used for high-contrast marking applications in consumer electronics, household appliances, and packaging industries. The increasing adoption of environmentally friendly, non-contact laser marking in consumer electronics and packaging has driven the demand for cost-effective and efficient ultraviolet lasers capable of achieving permanent, damage-free marking. Coherent's new matrix ultraviolet laser is a diode-pumped solid-state laser that offers excellent marking quality at half the entry-level price of existing solutions.

Dr. Christopher Dorman, Senior Vice President of Coherent's Solid-State Laser Business Unit, stated, "By sourcing critical optical components internally and leveraging our large manufacturing and service base in Asia, we can offer this laser at an attractive cost model. With increasing demand for environmentally sustainable alternatives, the market for this new generation of ultra-low-cost matrix lasers will expand rapidly."

The new laser is available with output powers of 5 W and 10 W, with a pulse repetition frequency range of 50 to 300 kHz, enabling over 15,000 hours of maintenance-free operation for reliable high-volume production. The laser can deliver pulse energies of up to 200 ¦ÌJ at 355 nm, making it suitable for demanding applications.
